Social Enterprise
Our social enterprise activities are an essential part of City Mission's financial model.
City Mission operates a range of social enterprise activities across North and North West Tasmania which generate around forty percent of the finances required to deliver core programs and services each year. Last year, thanks to community support, $7.6 million was generated in sales from 11 Mission Shops and 5 Resale Centres, playing a huge part in maintaining City Mission programs and services.
The more you shop and donate, the more people we are able to help.
Each year City Mission transforms the lives of more than 10,000 Tasmanians. When you shop in one of City Mission's many Mission Shops or Resale Centres your money stays in local communities across North and North West Tasmania, helping us provide care and assistance to people experiencing hardship & disadvantage. Without the generosity of local communities in North and North West Tasmania we simply wouldn't be able to meet the growing demand for assistance each year.
Beyond providing a broad range of pre-loved clothing and essential items at affordable prices, these shops also give opportunities for members of the community to volunteer, learn new skills and make new friends.
Importantly, all profit from Missions Shops directly supports City Mission’s client services and programs operating across North and North West Tasmania.
Resale and Recycle Centres
As part of our circular economy operations, we partner with local councils to provide community and environmental benefits. We now operate five resale shops in Launceston, Central Coast, Burnie, Wynyard, and Smithton.
All sites are supported by a committed supply chain and warehouse team processing and delivering quality donations provided by generous community members. Donated and recovered goods, including building materials are available to purchase at any Resale Shop at reasonable (and negotiable) prices.
These operations provide additional essential revenue to City Mission and help us become more sustainable as an organisation and a community, furthering the ability of City Mission to provide essential client services and programs to our communities.
In the last year alone, combined through our 16 social enterprise locations over 1.68 million items were able to be diverted from landfill.
