Spring Food Drive 2022

Spring Food Drive is on September 8 and 9 in conjunction with Lions Clubs across the North and North-West of Tasmania.

City Mission is holding its annual Spring Food Drive on September 8 and 9 in conjunction with Lions Clubs across the North and North-West of Tasmania.

The Spring Food Drive aims to encourage the community to purchase an extra item or two when doing their weekly grocery shopping, helping City Mission to provide essential food items.

Last year, with help from local Lions Clubs, we were able to raise much needed food and monetary donations across the North and North-West.

This provided food and hygiene products for many families and individuals seeking assistance at City Mission.

This year, with financial and rental stress becoming more prevalent, we are expecting the number coming to us for assistance to increase especially coming into Christmas.

"The spring food drive is a wonderful initiative and we're grateful for the hours that Lions Club members volunteer to make this happen each year," City Mission chief executive officer Stephen Brown said.

“We're hopeful the community can help restock our shelves in time for Christmas by donating an extra item or two if they can.

"All non-perishable food items are welcomed; however, we also have a shortage of personal care items such as shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste. Any financial donation will also help us purchase goods we don’t receive."

A list of suggested items is available on City Mission’s website citymission.org.au or via the Facebook page City Mission North & North-West TAS. Monetary donations can also be made via the website.

Mr Brown said everyone's individual contribution when added all together makes an enormous difference to many people's lives that come to the City Mission every day.

"If individuals just buy an extra couple of items with their groceries, they may not notice it much, but it makes a world of difference to people when we put it all together," he said.

Donation stalls will be set up at seven locations in Launceston and the North-West between 10am - 4pm.
