Emergency Relief Assistance

Emergency Relief Assistance ( Launceston and North West)

Financial problems can affect anyone at any time. Our Emergency Relief assistance can help families and individuals living in Launceston and the North-West experiencing financial hardship, unable to meet basic living costs.

Through assessment, caseworkers help with basic food packages, advocacy with electricity and telephone bills, emergency fuel or transport needs. City Mission can also help with referrals to other services as required. In some circumstances, we may be able to help you access medical advice, purchase medications or provide vouchers to purchase furniture, household goods and clothing.

We work in conjunction with other Emergency Relief agencies and have guidelines in place to ensure we help as many people as we can.

To access this service, you need to make an appointment for an interview with the Family Services team by telephoning or in person.

To make an appointment in Launceston please call 6335 3000.

For appointments in the North-West please call 6432 2543.

Outreach Trailers (SnagChat)

#SnagChat, City Mission's mobile BBQ trailer, brings smiles, support and sizzle sausages to Launceston's suburbs and surrounding towns. Our friendly volunteers provide a free BBQ and drinks; sparking conversations with individuals, children, and families.

Utilising the delicious aroma of a cooked snag, #SnagChat provides a vital lifeline for people who may be isolated and in need of a chat. #SnagChat creates a positive community space where people can feel they belong, while enjoying good food, company and conversation.

In addition to the immediate support of the #SnagChat BBQ, we also distribute emergency supplies such as blankets, clothes, and food, while also connecting people with crucial services. Last year, our team of 23 volunteers and 1 staff member attended 201 events, serving over 15,000 people, including nearly 10,000 children.

#SnagChat collaborates with many like-minded local organisations such as PCYC, Northern Suburbs Community Centre, local schools, George Town Neighbourhood House, City of Launceston Council, local churches, Scripture Union, Vinnies, Healthy Tasmania, local playgroups and many others.

You are welcome to join us every Friday night in Civic Square for good company, conversation, and a snag!
